The
Role of Planning

The Cooperstown
community adheres to the highest standards of planning, zoning and historic
preservation. This careful approach has created a rare blend of unspoiled natural
beauty, well-protected Federal and Victorian architecture, and economic potential.
The community is committed to maintaining this unique harmony through wise long term
planning and by pursuing development that is environmentally and economically sustainable.
A keystone in this approach is the
pro-active concentration of economic and retail activities in the shopping district within
the Village limits. The attractive environmental and economic attributes of the
Cooperstown community are evidence that sound planning has been beneficial. Planning
and zoning were adopted in Cooperstown as early as 1946 and by the town of Otsego in
1987.
Master plans are in place for both the
town and the Village and enjoy strong public support. The result is a focus of
commercial activity radiating from our village and hamlet business districts, enhanced by
outlying open space, active farms, green belts and scenic vistas. The community
believes this model of development is highly preferable to others because it protects the
very attributes of the area on which long-term economic growth depends.
Thus, the Cooperstown
community model offers rare opportunities for responsible, sensitive, lucrative and
sustainable development. |
