The second largest employer in Cooperstown is
the County of Otsego with 424 employees and a payroll of $12,282,612. In addition to
the employees who work here the Motor Vehicle Bureau, Social Services Department,
courthouse and County Clerk's offices also bring commerce into the business
district. At the opposite end of Main Street from the county office building is the
Village Office Building, Library, and Post Office.
Tourism and everyday residential life are very
integrated on Main Street. Between these landmarks are a variety of service oriented
businesses such as hardware, clothing, restaurants, gourmet delis, bakeries, real estate
offices, banks, gift and specialty shops. A number of hotels and B&Bs are
located within this general area as well. The residential community is contiguous to the
greater village business district -- a congenial blend of past and present, tourist and
resident, each contributing unique atmosphere that is Cooperstown's shopping district.
The New York State Historical Association,
located just outside of town, employs 72 full time and 123 part-time employees with an
annual payroll of 3.2 million and an operating budget of 5.6 million. |
