Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce joins once again with the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and the Village of Cooperstown to support the Hall of Fame Classic Weekend this June. In addition to the scheduled baseball activities sponsored by the Hall of Fame (see below), Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce will host and coordinate the first ever Cooperstown Classic Fest in Doubleday Field parking lot on Saturday, 6/18 from 9am-6pm as well as the traditional kickoff parade at noon on Sunday, 6/19 which ends with honored players entering Doubleday Field to begin the Classic Game.

Preliminary plans provide for a variety of rain or shine attractions that will take place in the parking lot all day long on Saturday, including an overview of upcoming summer season highlights in the Cooperstown area, music, games and vendors and crafts that match up with a traditional, Americana, classic theme. This is going to be a fantastic Cooperstown Classic weekend to kick off the summer and provide visitors with an unforgettable time while they are here.

 

Hall of Fame Events

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum hosts the return of a new tradition on Father’s Day, June 19, with the third annual Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Ford Motor Company. The Classic will be played at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown and feature several Hall of Famers, including Andre Dawson, Goose Gossage, Paul Molitor, Phil Niekro, Tony Perez, Jim Rice, Ozzie Smith and Dick Williams, along with more than 20 retired players.

The full weekend of events will feature the new Hall of Fame Classic Weekend Golf Tournament, the Youth Skills Clinic, the June 18 Family Fun Day at Doubleday Field, a June 18 Voices of the Game program at Doubleday Field, a pregame parade on June 19 and a pregame Legends Hitting Contest. Family Fun Day events will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in and around historic Doubleday Field. Events will include interactive displays and demonstrations.

Cooperstown Chamber Events – Details to Date

Saturday, June 18, 9am-6pm, Cooperstown Chamber Classic Fest at Doubleday Field Parking Lot (Rain or Shine)

A fun, classic-themed vendor and exhibitor fair depicting area businesses and organizations publicizing their summer season offerings and specialty wares. Special features for the day, including musical entertainment and fun attractions, are being identified. Vendor and exhibitor space is limited.

Cooperstown Chamber members will have an early bird registration opportunity for $75.00 per 10 x 10 booth space through April 15, 2011. Non-members will have the opportunity for space beginning April 16st until capacity is reached, at $125.00 per 10 x 10 booth space.

Slick Fitty in Concert!

Slick Fitty will play two sets on Saturday, one at noon and one at 4 p.m., at Doubleday Field Parking Lot.

Slick Fitty’s amped-up blend of rockabilly, country and ‘50s rock-and-roll has been wowing audiences in the U.S. and Europe for 10 years. With twangin’ guitars, screamin’ sax and songs about cars, girls and drinkin’, Slick Fitty is the quintessential American band, their musical melting pot seasoned by a decade of playing bars, street festivals and roller derby bouts.

 

Sunday, June 19, Step off at 12pm, Cooperstown Chamber Classic Weekend Parade

The Classic Weekend Parade on Main Street will feature local dignitaries, sponsoring businesses and organizations, musical elements, and a variety of other fun and interesting units, all highlighted by National Baseball Hall of Fame Classic Hall of Famers and Major League Baseball alumnae!

Sponsorships and contributions for the parade are accepted at all levels, with special benefits for those at $300 and above ($250 and above for Cooperstown Chamber Members).
