Description: Anglers Lodge, one of the great, romantic accommodations on Lake Otsego, was a feature story in the June 2001 issue of Good Housekeeping. It has just been redone and decorated by a well-known New York City decorator in the Adirondack style and with a fishing theme. There is a spectacular view of the lake, as you sit on the couch or at the dining table – both looking out through French doors, which lead onto a large deck. The deck has another dining table in mosaic tile with wooden/metal chairs, and a gas grill. A staircase leads to our dock (not the one next to the boathouse) – for swimming, fishing, or boating. Bring your equipment or rent from Sam Smith’s Boatyard. There is a rose garden, from which you may pick a single rose for every woman and girl in the Lodge, and please enjoy all the other gardens and flowers.

Angler’s Lodge is filled with local antiques, new custom-made Adirondack furniture, and wonderful hand-painted chests. The couch, in real leather, converts into a very comfortable queen bed, and historic artwork adorns the walls. The floors are antique wooden boards. There are two of the most comfortable chairs you will ever sit in, which rock, swivel, and glide as you watch the glimmering surface of the lake or TV. There’s even a treasure trove of classic books for relaxing by the lake or on the deck. The bedrooms are cozy and welcoming, with all new, all cotton linens (not white!), down quilts, and the best of mattresses. The kitchen has a new industrial stove, dishwasher and toaster-oven – all in stainless steel – and a new, large refrigerator. The counter top is copper and the floors Italian tile. We want your stay to be hassle-free, peaceful, fun, and romantic!

Condiments for cooking are in the cabinet. Please leave non-spoilables for the next guests.

Rules: No smoking. No pets. Nice children aged 5 and up are welcome. The deck is too dangerous for younger. Parking is for only one car, close-in to the Lodge – NOT in neighbor’s space to the far left and not in our space straight in toward the fence in front of the stairs down to our cottage. Other cars can park on the side of the highway (but be very careful getting out!) Limit of two guests at a time; therefore, no team parties (due to insurance.) Sorry.

Directions: 6 miles N of Cooperstown (1 mile above 5-mile point) on Highway 80; or 4.7 miles S of Route 20; just S of Hickory Grove Motor Inn on the SE corner of Lakeshore Drive. The side facing the Highway has a sign in wood “Angler’s Lodge” and another in black metal “6838”. The Lodge is green with natural wood trim. Any problems, go to Hickory Grove Motel. Please keep the lodge locked.

Lease Prices 6/1 to 9/1: $1900/week; $325/day; $3500 for 2 weeks, then rates on request.

Cancellation: Loss of $500 deposit if 4 weeks or more prior to start; then no cancellation unless rerented.
